A couple of years ago, gladiator shoes reappeared in shoe stores and due to the classic nature of this footwear, they still linger. There are some things you need to consider before you get into wearing gladiator style shoes. One of the things that needs to be taken into consideration is the style and the other is how your legs and ankles look. Oh and how your feet look too. If you get this wrong you are doing a disservice to both the gladiator shoes and to your own appearance.

Gladiator shoes could just as easily be referred to as gladiator sandals. Let this be your first clue to choices. This footgear only works well in warm climates. Strolling the beaches along the north Atlantic coast with gladiator sandals may look hot and sexy in the summer but just plain goofy in the fall. But in California, they look amazing all year around. Okay, this is pretty obvious. But I have seen occasions where this actually needed to be mentioned.

Let’s think about some types of gladiator shoes. Knee high gladiator sandals are eye-catching. But eye-catching can be taken in two ways. If you have slender legs, this can be a very popular and attractive style. But, and I saw this with my own eyes, a short-legged stocky woman with badly shaved legs was tromping around a tourist attraction with gladiator shoes laced all the way up her stumpy legs to the knees. It made her look like one of the carnival attractions… the knee high gladiator sandals didn’t seem to help her image. There are those proponents of fashion who claim that fashion should be all about comfort and she did look comfortable. And maybe that was all that mattered. I still think she would have been better off in gladiator shoes that laced to the ankle. However, it was a positive thing that they were not high heeled shoes. That choice is up to you.  I suppose. You could even put on a pair of gladiator boots if that defines who you are!

Having said that, here are some hard facts about wearing gladiator shoes. Get a good pedicure.  Keep your legs smooth and sexy. And wear clothing that suits your shoes. Wearing big clunky sandals with a flimsy filmy dress just looks bad. Delicate sandals are more flexible and look good with jeans or a dressy dress. Oh and make sure they fit perfectly. Sandals or shoes that are too big or too small not only hurt you, they can damage your feet and, trust me, they do nothing to enhance your own looks.
